where are you now

“Teenage angst has paid off well.
Now I’m bored and old.” Kurt Cobain

so where are you now
with the hole getting bigger and groping for justice
only to find marshmallows dripping out of the year your fame killed you
like teenage fairies crawling through gymnasiums and sliding
along the aisles of dark high schools where cheerleaders gyrate through opaque dances
when perhaps all you really wanted was to sleep alone
with angels to beckon you to the pendulums
swinging through the existence of sharp-toothed maggots
and lifeless paths crumbling beneath your feet or was it your feet
that were crumbling

were you fighting against the dead walking through gardens of terror blooming
among the living or is it just that the dead don’t want to believe anymore
and the living don’t have to
because violent hipsters are holding the hands of zombies

so go ahead and sleep
while time keeps flying like birds trapped in a time-warp

sleep
and hope that no one breaks in to find the gas chambers filled with alien corpses
like a beach stuck between our teeth and tongues

yes go ahead and sleep
while our noses grow so long
the continents move to catch them
and icebergs have sharp talons
that will reveal more to us than we really want to know

yes sleep
sleep through the lost pages of reality
falling out of silent bibles onto our heads
while the gods tell us money will get us loving arms
to spill out of the machines around our bellies
